SPARCO ENJOYS BUMPER HOME GP WITH TWO WINS AND ALL-SPARCO PODIUM IN MONZA News Photo
Italian race wear specialists Sparco have much cause for celebration at the conclusion of this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix with multiple wins in the GP2 Series, including an all-Sparco podium in Sunday morning’s sprint race.

Sparco started the weekend in style by officially handing over the inaugural Sparco GP2 Award to this year’s winner Jolyon Palmer during the annual Confartigianato Motori event at the Villa Reale di Monza. In front of a packed crowd, Sparco handed over the mounted steering wheel to the championship-leading driver.

On Sunday afternoon, Palmer demonstrated just why he was nominated as the winner of the Award as he stormed to victory in the GP2 sprint race, leading a Sparco 1-2-3. Behind Palmer, Stefano Coletti and Stéphane Richelmi finished second and third to ensure the Sparco name was prominent on the Monza podium – in Sparco’s home Grand Prix!

The trio have all used Sparco’s high performing Superleggera race suit this season and find benefits from the suit’s proven technical capabilities. The all-Sparco podium came following a victory in Saturday’s GP2 feature race for Stoffel Vandoorne, who also represents Sparco in the competitive series. The McLaren Mercedes test driver took this third win of the year in a lights-to-flag victory.

McLaren-Mercedes were themselves in action on Sunday afternoon with both drivers Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen wearing Sparco’s state of the art EXTREMA RS-10 overalls on their way to a double points finish in the F1 race. Button finished in 8th place with Magnussen in tenth following a post-race penalty.

Of Sparco’s two other F1 teams, Caterham F1 Team and Marussia F1 Team, it was the former who registered the highest classified finish with Kamui Kobayashi in 17th place.

Sparco’s CEO Claudio Pastoris commented: “It has been a very special week for everyone involved at Sparco. To participate in a home Grand Prix at Monza is a real honour and we have celebrated this with a number of activities. We presented our debut Sparco GP2 Award to Jolyon Palmer on Thursday evening in front of a big audience of racing professionals and we received a fantastic response. When the racing started, the thrill and excitement intensified and we were able to witness a Sparco win in both feature and sprint races. Well done to Stoffel Vandoorne for winning on Saturday and to our GP2 Award winner Jolyon Palmer for winning on Sunday morning. The sprint race was even more special because we saw a Sparco 1-2-3. There is no greater sight than seeing our company name emblazoned on the overalls of all the drivers on a podium! We were also supporting our partners in Formula One and it was a pleasure to work with them all on our home soil. We are looking forward to the next race in Singapore where race suit comfort will be of real importance.”
