SPARCO PREPARES FOR GP2 AWARD PRESENTATION IN HOME GRAND PRIX AT MONZA News Photo
Italian race wear specialists Sparco are looking forward to a very special celebration on home soil as the company prepares to formally present its inaugural Sparco GP2 Award this Thursday.

The Sparco GP2 Award is a new initiative for the 2014 racing season which has been established to acknowledge the company’s activities in the competitive GP2 Series, while at the same time recognising the rising stars in the championship.

Sparco’s involvement in GP2 Series dates back years with the company’s state-of-the-art overalls and racing apparel used throughout the field.

The Sparco GP2 Award was launched in conjunction with one of the season’s highest profile races, at the Monaco Grand Prix, and ran at all European rounds up to and including the most recent Belgian Grand Prix. A special jury of motorsport journalists voted at each race weekend for their top GP2 driver, taking into consideration performances in qualifying, the feature race as well as the shorter sprint races.

Votes have all been counted and the winning driver was decided at the conclusion of the Spa-Francorchamps weekend. Briton Jolyon Palmer, and current GP2 Series leader, who wears Sparco overalls, amassed the highest number of votes from the jury with 15 in total.

Palmer will be presented with the first ever Sparco GP2 Award this Thursday afternoon in a special presentation in the Monza paddock, attended by some of the jury as well as representatives from Sparco.

Sparco CEO Claudio Pastoris said: “The Italian Grand Prix has always been a special one for Sparco. As our home race weekend, and one full of racing tradition, it offered the perfect opportunity for us to celebrate our involvement in both Formula One and GP2 Series. Since Monaco, we have been holding our inaugural GP2 Award with a special jury voting for the most impressive driver each weekend. We have seen a wide variety of drivers named with a number of different names emerging. In the end, though, there can only be one winner and we look forward to presenting the Award to Jolyon Palmer in a special celebration on Thursday in Monza. We have been building up to this moment all season and while we will support our Sparco drivers right up to Abu Dhabi, we will be honoured to announce Sparco-wearer Jolyon Palmer as the first ever Sparco GP2 Award winner this Thursday. A big thank you to all the journalists who have made up our Sparco GP2 jury this season – and to all the drivers who have contested this season with such competitive, thrilling and entertaining racing. This fighting spirit is what makes GP2 Series so successful and so relevant to Sparco’s business.”
